Neighbourhood Details

The cultural centre of Ottawa's Italian community, Little Italy was initially settled around 1900 by Italian immigrants. Today, the neighbourhood is home to a growing number of European and Asian immigrants and intersects with Ottawa’s Chinatown. It is one of the cultural quarters on offer in the city; it is steeped in history and moving forward to become a major Ottawa destination for residents and visitors alike. 

Transportation in Little Italy

Little Italy is centrally located in the middle of many major bus routes and the O-Train. Three bus routes run right through the community, others run on the outskirts, and the Transitway is within walking distance. The O-Train, located near the intersection of Preston Street and Carling Avenue, provides a direct and reliable link to Bayview Station, Carleton University, and the Greenboro shopping area.

Little Italy offers a range of fantastic dining options-- whether it's a quick panini at Sanguicchio's, pizza at Di Rienzo's, vegan fare at Green Earth, or a full-course meal at Giovanni's - one of the city's best Italian restaurants - there's something for everyone! Preston Street, or ‘Corso Italia’, is the main commercial street featuring small businesses and many Italian restaurants. Each June, the street is closed off for the Italian Week Festival featuring live music, food and festivities. St. Anthony of Padua Church was built in 1913 and is a major signpost of the neighbourhood. The community is surrounded by plenty of park land, including Dows Lake and the National Capital Commission (NCC) trail system.
